Bollywood has been an industry of hero worshipers where the superstars drive the public to the theaters. But on occasions, the music of the movie was the real hero and some stars became immortal because the song was pictured on them. Such was the magnetism of these songs that people would croon them spontaneously. They were not just on the minds but also on the lips of all.

It’s difficult to prepare a list of movies which made it big because of the music only and it would be a conjecture.

Saajan

A formula driven movie where two individuals fall for the same girl. The film was a blockbuster and went on to become one of the most successful movies of the 90s owning to its music. The songs consisted of mild peppy numbers along with the exceptional choreography by Saroj Khan which was ably executed by the very mesmerizing Madhuri Dixit. Radio Nasha recommends –  ‘Mera dil bhi kitna pagal hai’ and ‘Jiye to jiye kaise’.

Aashiqui

Mahesh Bhatt’s movies have always been known for their great music. This movie with two newcomers had songs dipped in the melodious composition of Nadeem Shravan which were sung by the duo, Anuradha Paudwal & Kumar Sanu. The movie propelled both the playback singers to stardom. The soundtrack of the album has been rated the fourth best ever by Planet Bollywood on their “100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks” list. It has already sold over 15 million copies in India and is the best-selling soundtrack album in the country. Two of the most enchanting numbers that you must play are – ‘Dheere dheere se mere zindagi mein aana’ and ‘Dil ka aalam’.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has set high standards of music in his movies and HDDCS was the epitome. The romantic musical drama was set around a love triangle interspersed with 10 songs. The movie had many highs but the pleasant music stood out. KKs rendition of ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ left everyone mesmerized. You must listen to ‘Chaand Chhupa Badal Mein’ and ‘Jhonka Hawa Ka’.

Khamoshi: The Musical

Though the movie bombed at the box-office, the music left an indelible impression on the hearts of people.  This musical drama by Sanjay Leela Bhansali had the soul-stirring music by Jatin-Lalit and lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. You will fall in love with all the songs of the film, but we highly recommend two of them – ‘Ye Dil Sun Raha Hai’ and ‘Mausam Ki Sargam ko sun’.

Chandni

The movie was illuminated with 11 brilliant songs. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Hari Prasad Chaurasia, known as Shiv-Hari together, composed the mesmerizing music and Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics. With an unwritten rule, ‘Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Chudiyaan’ and ‘Main Sasural Nahi Jaungi’ became an integral part of wedding festivities in the country. We suggest you hear – ‘Chandni’, the title track and ‘Tere Mere Hoton Pe’.
