Aap Jaisa Koi (Qurbani, 1980)

The beginning of the 80s saw a new music scene in Bollywood and this song symbolized the change. Zeenat Aman looked drop-dead gorgeous in the movie. Biddu was the music director for the song and Nazia Hasan created magic with her sensual voice. The duo got introduced to Indian films with this track.

Jimmy Jimmy (Disco Dancer, 1982)

During this period, the duo of Mithun Chakraborty & Bappi Lahiri was churning out hit disco numbers one after the other. This song was amongst the many other disco tracks that the duo gave to the Bollywood industry. This song inspired the soundtrack for the final fight scene of ‘You Don’t Mess With Zohan’ (2008) directed by Dennis Dugan.

Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba (Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, 1982)

The high octane music in this track makes you want to groove along every time you hear the song.  Salma Agha’s voice brings the song alive with its energy and fervour. In 2017, Marvel borrowed this song for the trailer of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2‘. Within six hours of its release the video collected over 2 lac views and over 20,000 reactions!

Pyar Do Pyar Lo (Janbaaz, 1986)

Rekha’s special appearance makes this song even more special. The vocals were done by Sapna Mukherjee and the song is a Kalyan Ji-Anand Ji composition.

Parveen Babi looked every bit of a Diva in a golden bodysuit with a Sarong wrapped around her waist and Asha Bhonsle’s sensual voice wreaked havoc in the hearts of many with this track.

Disco ’82 (Khuddar, 1982)

The ultimate Disco song of the 80s belongs to the legends Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar who lent their vocals for this track that defines the era. The repeated Verse ‘Duniya hai ek Disco‘ reminds you of the famous Shakespearean phrase ‘All the world’s a stage‘.

Disco Deewane (Disco Deewane, 1981)

This song did not feature in any movie but the 80s cannot be imagined without it. It was like the disco anthem of the youth during those days in India and abroad and it broke many records for a non-film soundtrack.

I am a Disco Dancer (Disco Dancer, 1982)

The song featured Mithun, clad in a silver bodysuit, proudly announcing to the world that he is a disco dancer and nobody has ever nodded in disagreement. After this movie, he was also affectionately called Pelvis Presley. The song also has a very interesting meaning of the acronym D.I.S.C.O.

Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re (Saheb, 1985)
