The Indian music composer, music director, singer, actor, and record producer is often called the ‘Godfather’ of Disco in the country. He was the one who popularised the use of synthesised disco music in Bollywood. Such a celebrated artist he is that he has been an inspiration for international musicians. His ‘Disco Dancer’ (1982) soundtrack is said to have influenced songs by artists such as Ruki Vverh the Russian Group and MIA. His most widely sampled song is “Come Closer” from ‘Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki’ (1984), which has been sampled by various musicians, including Dabrye and Planet Asia. In 2017, Marvel borrowed his song ‘Ye Raat mein jo maza hai’ song for the trailer of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2‘. His song ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ inspired the sound track for the final fight scene of ‘You Don’t Mess With Zohan’ (2008) directed by Dennis Dugan.

The duo of Bappi Lahiri and Mithun Chakraborty was single-handedly responsible for making disco ‘cool’in 80s and the era was largely known as the disco era because of their hit ‘Jodi’. The movie ‘Disco Dancer ‘was iconic and because of it Mithun Da came to be known as the ‘Elvis Presley’ of Bollywood and Bappi Da became the ‘Disco King’
